Hotspot 2.0 networks feature has been introduced with Windows 10 Build 14328. This feature focuses on allowing users to automatically and securely connect to Wi-Fi networks while on the move. With this feature enabled, you can get to connect to internet in certain public places, airports, restaurants, hotels, railway stations etc. Hotspot 2.0 is also called HS2 and Wi-Fi Certified Passpoint. It’s nothing but a technology to aid wireless connectivity Wi-Fi by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Hotspot 2.0 is a standard for seamless authentication to wireless internet hotspots and therefore offers an encrypted connection between the client and the access point. It implements IEEE 802.11u to communicate with the provider before it establishes a connection. Authentication and encryption are provided by using WPA2-Enterprise together with one of several EAP methods.

I have a desktop that never leaves my home and is connected to a router for my internet connection. Since I don’t need any remote or “portable” nternet connections, would it be safe to turn off my Hotspot 2.0 option? I feel nervous when I see my neighbors’ Wifis listed under my available Wifi sources; do they see mine on their lists?
