This is yet another time when Microsoft has been victimized by a group of notorious hackers. Windows XP source code has been leaked online and the files have been uploaded as torrent file in a website. The leakers have spent several months in extracting source codes of various versions of Windows operating system, Windows Server and others. They consolidated all the source codes in a humongous 43 GB file and uploaded it on 4chan forum as torrent file.

The leaked files contain source codes of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and several older versions. Check out the list of older versions

  • MS DOS 3.30
  • MS DOS 6.0
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows CE 3
  • Windows CE 4
  • Windows CE 5
  • Windows Embedded 7
  • Windows Embedded CE
  • Windows NT 3.5
  • Windows NT 4

The torrent file also contains some conspiracy theory videos about Bill Gates. Besides, in many online forums, the source codes of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 have been shared by the hackers in a 2.9 GB file.

According to reports, this process is being carried out for years. Hackers extract these codes, pass on to others secretly and finally releases the entire version.

Now, you must be thinking why hackers have released source codes of obsolete OS versions? The reason is simple. Even though Windows XP is obsolete and no longer in use, but there are chances that Microsoft has used source codes from XP in it’s new versions. If that is the case, then the security of all present Windows versions is at stake. Hackers can reverse Engineer with the help of these source codes and cause havoc to users. Very recently, the GitHub repository of Microsoft was hacked. So, this is not the first time that Microsoft is facing this.

Microsoft was contacted by various tech news channels to learn about the authenticity of the alleged source codes that have been leaked. But Microsoft said that they are investigating over the matters. We expect to hear from Microsoft very soon.
