Microsoft is collaborating with the Be My Eyes App in order to provide technical support to blind people. Be My Eyes is an application which was released more than years ago. Its main aim was to render assistance to blind and visually handicapped people. There are provisions for Live video connections, with which sighted representatives and volunteers help visually handicapped people solve their daily chores like cooking, cleaning, washing, finding lost items etc. In a short span, the application garnered a lot of accolades apart from gaining a whopping 900,000 users from more than 150 countries.
Microsoft has decided to collaborate with Be My Eyes App so that they can leverage the support by including technical assistance in the list of supports. Be My Eyes app had noticed that users were not only greatly helped by the application, but they also made a further request to extend their service. Users have requested their volunteers to resolve technology related queries also. This is when Be My Eyes approached the Redmond based tech giant. The users need to update the application in order to receive technical support. They can call at Microsoft’s Disability Answer Desk, which is a free consumer service for disabled customers. A new Specialized Help menu has been added to serve customers who have tech-related requests.
Neil Barnett, Microsoft’s Director of the Disability Answer Desk, commented on the collaboration, noting:
Be My Eyes provides a new and innovative way for our customers to get technical support. With a simple tap, customers can access the Disability Answer Desk from their phone to get the help they need with Microsoft products and services.
The feature is available to the following regions: Australia, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States.
Hans Jørgen Wiberg, creator of Be My Eyes, stated that is honored to be partnered with Microsoft. They have achieved another milestone in helping the blind and visually impaired people. The updated Be My Eyes app can be downloaded from the Play Store or the App Store.
