Recently it was revealed that Windows 10 will be Microsoft’s last major version of Windows and Microsoft is completely abandoning its major release cycle. The reason for the decision was claimed to be that the model has become outdated, thanks to the rapid evolution of mobile devices and the fast pace of iteration in modern software. It is also claimed that the company is opting to use Windows 10 as a foundation across all devices on which new features and technologies may be developed in the future. Meanwhile, the OS will receive constant updates and new features to keep it competitive and up to date with the wider technology scene.

Windows 10 users will get free updates for supported lifetime of the device

However, new information on Windows 10 has been making the rounds. Microsoft’s Windows 10 site has revealed that Microsoft will not be charging consumers for new updates of OS that will add new features and functionalities to OS. Earlier it was pretty obvious that consumers had their own doubts and ideas when Microsoft revealed that all devices running Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, and all Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 handsets, will be able to upgrade to the new OS without charge. So common doubt in every consumer’s mind was that just like Office 365 and many other software products that company offers, require good amount of money to be paid. So is it something else that company will be tricking us to get its pocket filled? But all rumors have been buried down in sand by Microsoft as it announced that the update to Microsoft will not cost a penny. Here is Microsoft’s statement on its official site:
“And even better: once a qualified Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it up to date for the supported lifetime of the device, keeping it more secure, and introducing new features and functionality over time – for no additional charge.”

However this offer stands only for a year or so, so if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8, it’s better to consider an upgrade option before a year from release to save some money! We of course don’t know how much Windows 10 will be costing us post offer.

Redstone is another hot topic from Microsoft! Often know for using codenames (Remember “Blue” and “Threshold”!!), Microsoft have already started working on its next update for Win 10 which is named as Redstone! And is expected to be released in 2016. So Microsoft have also made it clear that with free updates for Windows 10, Redstone also will be absolutely free for consumers to grab!!
