Very recently, Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 KB5000842 update. It is indeed an annoying update as there are more new bugs, than the number of fixes. Firstly, the update brought some gaming performance issues with it. Microsoft acknowledged that few users have been experiencing lower performance during gameplay. Game players complained about specific issues such a dropped frame-rates, poor and slow performance and many more. However, Microsoft pushed an emergency update to Windows 10 KB5000842 and KB500130.
Now Microsoft has released another caution that a high pitch noise might be heard while using 5.1 audio with relevant settings. This issue of noise is not appearing when stereo is used.
Windows 10 versions which have been affected are:
- Windows 10 version 20H2
- Windows 10 version 2004
Right now Microsoft is investigating the issue. Until a new update comes up, you can try these two workaround as suggested by Microsoft:
- Streaming the video or audio in a web browser or different app, instead of the app affected by this issue.
- Enable Spatial sound settings by right clicking or long pressing on the volume icon in the notification area, selecting Spatial sound (Off) and selecting any of the available options
You can try this workaround, if you are also facing similar issues. Let us know, if these steps could solve your issue.
