Facebook’s standalone application for Windows 10 is shutting down by the end of February 2020. Facebook users have received emails from Facebook regarding the shutdown. According to an email sent to a user from Facebook, the application will stop working from February 28, 2020. We have seen Windows 10 apps and UWP have not been able to create an impact among people. Why would a user download a separate app for Facebook on their Windows PC, then the same features can be accesses using the web application, without consuming any storage? This is the reason why many Windows 10 Apps have shutdown and now it’s Facebook’s turn.
After February 2020, users will be directed to the web application of Facebook, if they try to use the Windows 10 Facebook app. Ever since its inception, Facebook app for Windows 10 has not been able to get good number of users. Hence, they stopped updating features and upgrading the overall application. In addition to that, Facebook also stopped updating their three other important apps, such as, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. Somehow, the situation got a bit better, when Facebook converted Messenger to an electron application. The company also switched Instagram app for Windows 19 to a PWA. But as for Facebook, the scenario is still pretty much the same.
Here is the email that a Facebook user received from Facebook:
