Kodera Software, a prominent game developer has recently posted some interesting findings about Linux gamers and Windows Gamers, about bug reporting. The findings are surely going to please the Linux gamers, as Kodera Software states that Linux Gamers are better in reporting bugs than Windows Gamers.
Kodera has been working on a title called ΔV: Rings of Saturn, and the title has been in early access for a couple of years. The developer has found that about 38% of all the bugs found in its title came from the Linux Community. Only 700 copies out of the total 12000 units sold are based on Linux. The number is just 5.8 per cent of the humongous userbase of ΔV: Rings of Saturn. Linux gamers report back 650% more bugs, compared to Windows gamers.
“As of today, I sold a little over 12,000 units of ΔV in total. 700 of these units were bought by Linux players. That’s 5.8%. I got 1040 bug reports in total, out of which roughly 400 are made by Linux players. That’s one report per 11.5 users on average, and one report per 1.75 Linux players. That’s right, an average Linux player will get you 650% more bug reports.”
If you are thinking that the platform itself is full of bugs, and that is the reason behind this findings, then you are a but mistaken. According to Kodera, out of 400 total bug reports from Linux, only three were platform-specific.
“Do you know how many of these 400 bug reports were actually platform-specific? 3. Literally only 3 things were problems that came out just on Linux.”
Kodera mentioned that the Linux community is exceptionally skilled in reporting bugs and the detailing of report is commendable as well. It is because of the open-source software like Linux, which gives people more exposure. The developer even compares the gamers’ efforts with free Quality Assurance (QA) checks.
