In the past, we heard that Microsoft is planning to make Windows 10 the last version of Windows and the company intended to continue the OS as a service. At that times lot of questions were circulating within our minds like how long will the OS package remain valid. Some users even went to think about the worst possibility- Is Microsoft quitting its phenomenal operating system forever.

Microsoft announced the life cycle of Windows 10 till October 2025

Then Microsoft washed off all the misconceptions and announced that the company will continue to provide service but unlike previous times, it wont launch new versions yearly. Rather it will focus on the demand of users and upgrade and stabilize the OS accordingly from time to time. Similar happens with OS X of Apple.

Now finally Microsoft could answer one of the most frequently asked questions about Windows 10- its life cycle. The company told that Windows 10 will have a support cycle of 10 years that will cover the mainstream support. The life cycle will end 2020 and security patches and bug fixes continuing for another 5 years, ending on October 14, 2025.

Microsoft said :

Updates are cumulative, with each update built upon all of the updates that preceded it. A device needs to install the latest update to remain supported. Updates may include new features, fixes (security and/or non-security), or a combination of both. Not all features in an update will work on all devices. A device may not be able to receive updates if the device hardware is incompatible, lacking current drivers, or otherwise outside of the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (“OEM”) support period. Update availability may vary, for example by country, region, network connectivity, mobile operator (e.g., for cellular-capable devices), or hardware capabilities (including, e.g., free disk space).
