We’re at the 1st quarter of the year, and we’ve already seen some interesting and exciting new technology trends. It’s likely that the next 9 months will see even more innovation. 2019 and 2020 lead us with a wave of new gadgets, such as 5G networks and Amazon’s Voice Echo, but this following list will wow you with how fast nu-tech will replace the old from 5 years ago.

1. Edge Computing

Edge computing assists data storage and computation at a close proximity, so collection is faster and more effective. You won’t have to rely on servers across the country. Instead, edge computing uses real-time data without the limitation of storage which affects output and performance. Edge computing is designed to help resolve latency issues caused by Cloud computing and a shared web file server. Cloud computing isn’t replaced, just improved.

2. Blockchain

Technology-forward companies have used blockchain in their businesses for a while, but others have stayed away because it wasn’t quick “there” yet. Blockchain is definitely where it needs to be in 2021, and more Silicon Valley executives are taking notice. Many businesses are launching their own blockchain currency, including Facebook, to cash in. The technology itself is safer, cheaper, faster and more traceable, and transparent than other security systems.

3. Cybersecurity

Blockchain isn’t the only security powerhouse taking over 2021; cybersecurity, in general, has evolved into its own sector. Ethical hackers are becoming more common because they’re necessary to help protect and reform networks. There aren’t nearly enough skilled professionals to fill these positions, and as a result, there will be more than 3.5 million unfilled jobs in 2021. Stay ahead of the game by improving on your coding skills and enrolling in a hacking course.

4. Personalized Medicine

The medical industry has always seen its fair share of innovation, but there was stagnancy in the home-health market. It’s not like you could wheel a CAT scan into your home or accurately measure body fat percentage with a scale. However, smartwatches like Fitbit and Apple Watch are making it possible to track multiple health measures on your smartphone. Smartwatches will eventually help doctors prescribe predictive and personalized medicine based on statistics.

5. Artificial Intelligence

Did you know that 5 out of 6 Americans use AI devices daily? Most of us use streaming services, map apps, and personal AI assistants to handle simple tasks. In the future, most of our lives will ultimately revolve around artificial intelligence to mimic human behavior. There are already considerable strides to make that happen in business, finance, and travel. For example, travel agencies will use AI to schedule flights, forecast weather, and determine if your flight is on time. Some artificial intelligence will even be able to mimic your voice to make phone calls!

6. Voice Search Technology (VST)

VST has been useful in multiple types of technology for years now, but it was finicky with accents, speech impediments, and clarity. Speech-to-text will sometimes misinterpret typical phrases as gibberish which will make the technology useless. In 2021, more search engines, like Google, are placing more importance on voice SEO for brand awareness due to the improvements and prevalence of voice search. In 2020, 50% of all online searches were voiced, proving how quickly we’ve switched from typing to voice technology.

7. Internet of Things (IoT)

Anything that connects to the Internet through WiFi connectivity is considered IoT. It was impressive when your fridge could connect to the Internet, but soon, everything will have some connection to the WWW. What limited IoT in the past was security: what if your smart car got a virus and failed? Cybersecurity has progressed to the point that many industries and technologies will support WiFi connectivity, making our lives more comfortable and convenient.
