Today Microsoft published a blog post today mentioning their new intention of protecting the Integrated Search Experience in Windows 10. In other words, Microsoft will not allow users to set Google as the default search engine in Cortana. Microsoft wrote in their blog post that Cortana has not been designed to support any search engine other than Bing. There is no straight path to make Google or any other search engine as the default search engine. But users could do it with the help of registry tweaks and third party applications. Users will be dismayed to know that this option will be stopped forever and cannot be established by any means.
As the Redmond based tech giant says, Bing has been integrated deeply within Cortana and changing Bing to any other search engine will compromise the quality of search experience making it slow and less reliable. However Microsoft did supported setting default browser for Cortana to something else other than Microsoft Edge but it seems the company will stop that too.
” The only way we can confidently deliver this personalized, end-to-end search experience is through the integration of Cortana, Microsoft Edge and Bing – all designed to do more for you”, says Microsoft. “Starting today, to ensure we can deliver the integrated search experience designed for Windows 10, Microsoft Edge will be the only browser that will launch when you search from the Cortana box.”
This news will definitely disappoint users but the restriction is only for Cortana. Users can use Google search engine, or use Firefox or Chrome browser but if they want to use Cortana they will only get to use Edge browser and Bing engine. ” You can easily use our centralized default manager to choose your preferred default program for everything from browsing to email, and you can configure the search default setting in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer, which are available when you directly access those programs”, said Microsoft.
